Now three people's deputies from Ukraine are staying in the US capital. They are lobbying for the lifting of the Western blockade on the supply of new weapons for the armed forces of Ukraine.
The main attention of journalists was riveted on the question of whether the United States will provide Ukraine with new tanks, such as Abrams.
The Pentagon official's response was ambiguous:
When we look at the long-term needs of Ukraine, we understand that the day will come when they may want to make the transition and may need to switch to NATO-compatible models. We are always very careful with any new equipment that we supply to Ukraine or that our allies, our partners provide, to ensure that we provide substantial training, maintenance and support - and consideration of support issues. So we want to make sure that when we provide opportunities, all of that is taken into account.
According to the representative, the supply of tanks is now being discussed. But that certainly won't happen in the short term. But some conditions must be observed. For example, take care of training, maintenance and support.
