The right attitude towards information will help to reduce its negative impact on the human psyche.

Negative news can have varying effects on the psyche depending on the individual, the context and frequency of the news. Constant focus on negative events can cause stress, anxiety, mood deterioration, feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. It can also lead to sleep and concentration disorders, behavioural changes and physical symptoms such as headaches or stomach upsets.

It is important to find a balance between being informed and protecting one's mental health by limiting the time spent watching the news, choosing sources of information and engaging in positive activities to relieve stress and tension.

The Ministry for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine in Telegram gave a number of tips on how to reduce the impact of negative news on the psyche.

In particular, citizens are advised:

  • not to start their day by watching news feeds, but to let themselves wake up and conduct morning rituals;
  • throughout the day, control the amount of time spent with the phone, reading news on websites and Telegram channels;
  • when updating social networks, it is worth remembering about the list of pending cases;
  • don't read comments - they can affect your mental well-being;
  • focus on positive news and the algorithms of social networks will produce more and more of them.

The agency urged to remember that healthy media consumption will reduce stress levels.

Also, remember that walking outdoors can help relieve stress and improve your mood. Practise regular exercise, a healthy diet and adequate sleep.
