In Kharkiv, an unknown person shot a 22-year-old veteran of the AFU with a prosthesis.



In the evening of 3 August, a 22-year-old veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was wounded in Kharkiv's Industrial District. The man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. As specified in the police and prosecutor's office, during the conflict the attacker shot the veteran with a traumatic pistol and then started beating him.

According to the police of the Kharkiv region and local media, the incident occurred in front of passers-by, and the moment of the attack was caught on video. The footage shows a man aiming at the victim with a prosthetic leg, shooting, and then coming closer and continuing the attack. Several bystanders tried to stop the attacker.

According to the prosecutor's office, the victim is a combat veteran and lost his leg during a mission at the front. After amputation, he was fitted with a prosthesis.

The attacker, a 43-year-old Kharkiv resident born in 1981, was detained on the spot in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Pre-trial investigation under part 4 of article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism) has been initiated. The sanction of the article provides for up to 7 years of imprisonment.

The victim was hospitalised, his condition is assessed as stable. Medics are providing the necessary assistance. The circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
