European countries that are increasing their defence budgets because of the Russian threat will suffer an inevitable defeat in case of war with Russia, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu has said.
Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu has said that in the event of a war with Russia, European countries "will suffer an inevitable defeat and be defeated". He said this in an interview with Kommersant.
All Europe will move in vain against Russia: it will find Thermopylae, Leonidas and its coffin there," he quoted Russian commander Suvorov as saying.
According to him, in case of an armed conflict with Russia, Europe will face something "similar to the Battle of Thermopylae - where a smaller Greek army led by the Spartan king Leonidas fought a huge Persian army".
At the same time, Shoigu said that Moscow is ready for dialogue with European countries, but, in his opinion, European authorities "ignore the interests of their citizens and worsen their welfare under the pretext of the Russian threat." As a result, according to Shoigu, "support for those in favour of cooperation with Russia is growing" in Europe.
Earlier, Shoigu said that Europe is preparing for a war with Russia, which could start by 2030. He allowed the possibility of a clash with NATO if the alliance countries send troops to Ukraine as peacekeepers. In Shoigu's opinion, such actions would lead to World War III.
