Sergei Cherednik, a leading engineer at the Institute of Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences, died at the front


Sergey Cherednik together with his colleagues developed, put into operation and for many years maintained in working condition the ion source of accelerator U-240, necessary for scientific research.
A National Guard fighter and a leading engineer of the Institute of Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Serhiy Cherednyk, was killed on the frontline in Donetsk Region during a combat mission. This was reported by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on 27 June.
on 28 May 2024, while performing a combat mission to protect the territorial integrity and state sovereignty of Ukraine, near the village of Georgievka, Donetsk region, a fighter of the National Guard of Ukraine, a leading engineer of the Institute of Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Sergiy Valentinovich Cherednik died, - the report said.
Sergey Cherednik was born on 24 June 1965 in Zhytomyr. He graduated from the Kiev Polytechnic Institute with a degree in optics and optoelectronic instrumentation.
Since October 2013, he worked at the Institute of Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: first in the department of the U-240 isochron cyclotron, then - after the reorganisation of departments - in the department of nuclear reactions.
The scientific community has lost a remarkable specialist in the field of nuclear electronics and physics of charged particle beams, a talented engineer, who together with his colleagues developed, commissioned and for many years maintained in working order the ion source of accelerator U-240, necessary for scientific research, - reported in the NAS.
Extremely hard-working and always decisive in his choice, Sergiy Valentinovich was a responsive and kind person, a true patriot of Ukraine, had a clear life position, a sense of dignity and duty to the Motherland.
With the fallen warrior said goodbye on 7 June 2024 in the conference hall of the Institute of Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev.
The workers not only of the Institute of Nuclear Research, but also of neighbouring institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine paid their respects to the man who voluntarily joined the AFU and defended our land from the enemy invasion. The Hero was buried at the Lesniy cemetery in Kiev.
