SBU detains FSB agent in Kharkiv region who was scouting Ukraine's defence lines on the border with Russia.

The SBU has detained an FSB agent who collected intelligence on the deployment and movement of the Defence Forces in the border areas of Kharkiv Region. This is reported by the SBU.

Most of all the enemy was interested in possible directions of movement of heavy armoured vehicles and artillery of the AFU, including howitzers and multiple rocket launchers in the area of liberated Volchansk. To tentatively establish such 'routes', the figure went round the area and looked for traces of tank tracks," the SBU said.

He also asked for "necessary" information from his local acquaintances under the guise of domestic conversations. In case of enemy "arrivals", the attacker collected information about their consequences and "reported" to the occupants.

Another of his tasks was to create his own network of informants, which should have included as many residents of the liberated districts of Kharkiv region as possible.

The SBU officers located the agent and detained him while conducting reconnaissance of the border area of the region.

The Russian agent turned out to be a 41-year-old resident of Volchansk, who was remotely recruited by a FSB officer in July this year.

After the recruitment, the traitor received instructions from the Russian intelligence service on how to conduct intelligence and subversive activities and chose the operational alias "Lexus" for himself.

Investigators of the SBU informed the Russian agent of suspicion under part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The attacker faces life imprisonment.
