Occupiers plan to ban hryvnia circulation in Melitopol from 1 January
The mayor of temporarily occupied Melitopol said that Melitopol residents, who find themselves on the brink of survival because of the occupation, are being forced to exchange the hryvnya for roubles.
Russians plan to ban circulation of hryvnya in temporarily occupied Melitopol, Zaporizhzhya Region, starting from 1 January 2023.
Melitopol mayor Ivan Fedorov said:
"From 1 January, the invaders will also intensify their economic terror - they will ban the circulation of the hryvnia and equate it with a 'federal crime'.
Collaborators and Moscow curators are profiting from the difference in exchange rates.
Fedorov also said that after each "successful action" of the resistance forces, the Russian occupiers launch another round of civil terror. In particular, filtration measures have been stepped up in the city: mobile phones and cars are checked, and townspeople are put in basements.
