Russian airlines seized 400 leased aircraft

To date, Russian airline companies refuse to return more than 400 passenger aircraft and many components that they have leased from foreign companies.

This has already generated $10 billion in insurance claims.

So far, Western companies have returned only about 80 of the 515 aircraft leased to Russia, according to research firm Cirium.

“The lessor community as a whole has come to terms with the fact that most of the aircraft they have stationed in Russia will not be seized,” said AeroDynamic Advisory consultant Mike Stengel.

Problems arise not only with the return of aircraft, but also with the return of aircraft engines, which were also leased to Russian companies.

It is noted that even domestically produced aircraft, such as the Sukhoi Superjet and the Irkut MC-21 regional jet, designed to compete with the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, use engines, avionics and software from the US and Europe.
