Russia refused to demilitarize the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant

Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, did not support the proposal to create a demilitarized zone around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

The demilitarization of the station could leave it vulnerable to those who wish to visit it. What will be their goals and objectives, no one knows. We cannot exclude any provocations, or terrorist attacks on the station, which we must protect, he said.

It is worth recalling that Russia has convened a round table in the UN Security Council, ostensibly to discuss the issue of the safety of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

The states at the meeting stated that for the security of the ZNPP, it is necessary to withdraw Russian troops from there, create a demilitarized zone there and provide access to IAEA experts.

Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Serhiy Kislitsa, at a meeting of the UN Security Council, said that Russia should allow a mission led by the IAEA to the Zaporizhzhya NPP, clear the ZNPP facilities, and withdraw the military and weapons from the station.
