Russia moves part of equipment and military contingent from Syria to Ukraine

Russia has now withdrawn the S-300 system from Syria to support its invasion of Ukraine, reducing Russia's influence over Israel in Syria and changing Israel's views on Ukraine.

It is not known exactly how many troops Russia has taken out of Syria. Some sources give a figure of 1200 to 1600 soldiers. Others believe that many more soldiers have been withdrawn.

Israeli NYT sources say several Russian commanders have also been redeployed from Syria to Ukraine. They believe that the Russian military leadership in Moscow has become less involved in the day-to-day management of operations in Syria, including in military coordination with Israel.

American journalists also report that in 2018 Russia transferred the S-300 air defense system to Syria. This posed a danger to Israeli pilots. Since this system can be used against Israeli combat aircraft. This was the main reason why Israel turned down Ukrainian requests for military equipment.
