Ukraine negotiates with Poland over veto on refugee payments.

Ukrainian diplomats are holding consultations with the Polish authorities after Polish President Karol Nawrocki vetoed a law providing for payments to Ukrainian refugees. This was announced by the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar on Slawa TV, RBC-Ukraine reports.

Bodnar noted that the changes in the Polish legislation caused a great resonance, but assured that the embassy is working to ensure that the rights of Ukrainian citizens are preserved. The diplomat emphasised the need to comply with the current rules of stay in the country and urged Ukrainians to submit all necessary documents in time.

The embassy plans to regularly inform the public about the progress of negotiations and explain what changes may be adopted.

The 800+ programme, which provides a monthly payment of 800 zloty (about 9,000 hryvnias) per child up to the age of 18, was in place for families with children, including Ukrainian refugees. However, Nawrocki proposed to provide benefits and free medical care only to those officially employed in Poland.

The new bill has already been sent to the Sejm.
