Law enforcers have exposed Ukrainian businessmen who tried to defraud the Defence Ministry.



Attackers tried to sell the ministry a batch of tank engines for the AFU at an inflated price. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

Representatives of a domestic enterprise tried to sell 80 units to the Defence Ministry at a price of more than 77m hryvnyas. At the same time, the market value of these engines is about 24 million UAH, - stated in the message.

Law enforcement authorities prevented the abuse of budgetary funds in especially large amounts, timely stopping the transaction. In the warehouse from the attackers seized tank engines, on which they were going to misappropriate public funds. As well as night vision devices and other components for armoured vehicles.

The seized components for tanks were transferred to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Within the framework of criminal proceedings under part 5 of article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation, embezzlement of property or taking possession of it by abuse of office) is being investigated to establish all the circumstances of the offence and bring the perpetrators to justice, - added in the SBU.

The perpetrators are currently facing a punishment of 12 years' imprisonment with confiscation of property.
