The pontiff called Putin a dictator.
Pope Francis called Putin a divtator who fuels conflicts and condemned him for attacking Ukraine. Reuters writes about it.
Pope Francis on April 2 for the first time criticized, albeit not directly, the Russian leader for his invasion of Ukraine, the publication reported.
The Pope noted that the invasion of other countries, brutal street fighting and nuclear threats, should have been memories of the distant past, but not today.
He noted that "the icy winds of war, bringing only death, destruction and hatred, powerfully covered the lives of many people and touched everyone."
And again, some dictator, unfortunately, in the anachronistic claims of nationalist interests, provokes and incites conflicts, and ordinary people feel the need to build a future that will either be common or not at all, the pontiff said.
The Pope strongly condemned "unjustified aggression" as well as "atrocities" in the war.
The pontiff criticized the arms industry and deplored the waning enthusiasm for the post-World War II world, saying that the clash of interests and ideologies "reappeared in the temptations of autocracy, new forms of imperialism by widespread aggressiveness."
It is known that the head of the Catholic Church plans to visit Ukraine in the near future.
