Orban said he plans to create a pro-Russian "peace coalition" in the future composition of the European Parliament
European Parliament elections are due to start in a week's time.
The head of the Hungarian government, Viktor Orban, intends to gather around him in the European Parliament sympathisers of Russia and "build" a pro-Russian "peace coalition" out of them. His words are quoted by Hungarian media, among them the local edition of Euronews, 24.hu and Index.hu.
He said representatives of only two political camps will run for the European Parliament this year - those who oppose Russia's aggression and those who intend to be friends with the Kremlin. Orban said he will be on the pro-Kremlin side and is even ready to lead a European political force in favour of "peace with Russia".
At the same time, Orban noted that now in the governing bodies of the European Union, those who are ready for war with Russia prevail.
"We need to win the European elections so that the bureaucrats in Brussels will open the city gates to us and leave in a hurry," he said at a "peace march" held in Budapest on Saturday, 1 June.
He added that his "pro-Russian coalition" in the European Parliament was allegedly ready to be supported by Donald Trump, provided he wins the US presidential election.
Speaking about the plans of the "coalition", he said that he would organise "peace talks with Russia" because, in his opinion, "it is impossible to defeat Russia in war".
