Number of missing children in Ukraine during the war named

On Saturday, 25 May, the world celebrates the International Day of Missing Children.
The Ukrainian parliamentary commissioner, Dmytro Lubinets, has said that the problem of missing children is acute in our country. He stressed that it had reached critical proportions since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russians. He also said how many children are considered missing as a result of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Today marks the International Day of Missing Children. The purpose of this day is to draw society's attention to this problem and the rules that will help prevent the disappearance of children. Unfortunately, with the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, this problem has become even more painful for us," he said.
Lubinets said that Russia continues to kidnap Ukrainian children and take them to temporarily occupied territories or deep inside Russia itself. Some children were also sent to the territory of Belarus. It is extremely difficult to get the children out of there. This requires considerable efforts on the part of Kyiv and international organisations.
As of today, 2,021 children are considered missing as a result of Russia's war against Ukraine," he said.
At the same time, as Lubinets and other officials said earlier, there could be many more missing children because there is no information from the temporarily occupied territory. The Russians are re-educating them and shaping their Russian identity.
