A large proportion of those who fled the war found refuge for themselves in Germany.

German Interior Minister Nancy Feather said that Germany had already accepted many Ukrainian refugees while other European countries had received few. She called the situation unfair and called for a review of the policy of resettlement of Ukrainians between all EU countries. She said this in an interview with Welt.

She pointed out that the issue is still relevant and noted that the flow of refugees, although it has become smaller, but still has not finally dried up. Many of those who are seeking asylum now are heading to Germany. She also added that Ukrainians who had previously received refugee status in other EU countries and for one reason or another decided to change their country of residence were also travelling to the country.

The newspaper writes that according to Eurostat, in March 2024 in Germany there were about 1.30 million refugees from Ukraine. Another 960 thousand Ukrainian refugees lived in Poland and about 360 thousand - in the Czech Republic. It is noted that other countries are not so loaded with newcomers, for example, France, received 20 times fewer refugees than the FRG.

The authors of the publication admit that internal displacement within the EU borders is facilitated by payments that Germany offers to those who seek protection in the country.

Ukrainians in Germany receive help in the amount of 563 euros a month for single people. In Sweden, they are paid just €180 a month. In Poland, as a rule, there is no permanent monetary assistance, - stated in the publication.

We will note, the EU has extended protection for Ukrainians on the territory of the commonwealth until March 2025. Ukrainians themselves can choose in which country to live. However, not every EU country is ready to grant refugee status to those who decided to change their place of residence.
