Plan for long-term assistance to Ukraine to be agreed at the upcoming NATO summit in Madrid

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that at the Madrid summit, Allies will adopt a broad assistance package for Ukraine that will help Ukraine move from Soviet-era military equipment to modern NATO equipment.

He stated this in Brussels during a press conference before a meeting of defense ministers of the Alliance member states.

“I expect the Allies to adopt a broad assistance package for Ukraine at the summit, helping Ukraine move from Soviet-era military equipment to modern NATO equipment, and improve its interoperability with NATO,” Stoltenberg said.

On June 28-30, the next NATO summit will be held in Madrid, which will consider current challenges for European and Euro-Atlantic security, primarily the consequences of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine, as well as ways to further transform the Alliance.
