The suspected arsonist has already been apprehended.



This was reported by the police of the Chernivtsi region.

According to the police, on the night of 24 April there was a fire in the village of Miliyevo, Vizhnitskyy district, Chernivtsy region. As a result, a church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate was damaged. The suspected arsonist has been detained.

The law enforcers preliminarily found out that the church and the shop burned as a result of arson. Police officers carried out immediate investigative measures and quickly identified the offender. It turned out to be a 34-year-old resident of the village of Ispas. Police officers detained the man under Article 208 (Detention by an Authorised Public Official) of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Apart from the church, a nearby shop was also damaged. The police are still investigating the motives of the attacker.

The police have initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 Article 194 (Intentional destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
