The IOC has suspended the Russian Olympic Committee

This is reported in the official press release of the International Olympic Committee.

The unilateral decision taken by the Russian Olympic Committee on 5 October 2023 to include in its membership the regional sports organisations under the jurisdiction of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine (namely Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhya) constitutes a violation of the Olympic Charter, as it violates the territorial integrity of the NOC of Ukraine, recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in accordance with the Olympic Charter," the IOC said.

The IOC Executive Board decided that the Russian Olympic Committee suspends its activities with immediate effect until further notice.

The suspension has the following consequences:

• The RussianOlympic Committee is no longer authorised to act as a National Olympic Committee as defined by the Olympic Charter and cannot receive any funding from the Olympic Movement.
• As stated in the IOC Position and Recommendations of 28 March 2023, which remain in full force and effect, the IOC reserves the right to decide on the participation of individual neutral athletes with a Russian passport in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games at an appropriate time.
