The Suwałki Corridor is about 100 kilometres long and connects Poland with the Baltic States and separates Belarus from the Kaliningrad Oblast.

President of Belarus Lukashenka visited the location of the Belarusian army near the border with Lithuania and in a conversation with a military officer asked whether they would be able to seize and hold the Suvalki corridor and "seize" part of Poland. The video was published by Lukashenko's press service.

In the published video, Lukashenko says that "they're always yapping about the Suwalki corridor," and asked the commander of the North-West Operational Command, Alexander Naumenko, about the distance from Belarus to Kaliningrad voblast.

He replied that in a straight line it was 42 kilometres.

Practically nothing... Well, they shouldn't act like that. At the moment you have to confront the Baltic republics... And you're grabbing a part of Poland," Lukashenko says.

He also asks if the commander is sure that he will be able to hold this territory along the front with his troops.

The composition is being prepared. The Defence Minister's order is being carried out as part of the preparation of fortified areas," Naumenko said.

The Suvalki Corridor is the territory on the border between Lithuania and Poland, through which the Baltic States are connected to the rest of the EU. It is also the shortest transport route between Belarus and Kaliningrad Region.
