The petition got the right number of votes and is now under consideration

Kiev residents have created a petition on the website of the Kiev city council, in which they suggest abandoning the installation of the Christmas tree in the centre of the capital and spending the money saved to help the army or IDPs. The petition has collected 6,187 signatures in one day. The author of the petition wrote

I consider it inappropriate to install a Christmas tree - to spend funds for its purchase, installation, maintenance and dismantling. The allocated funds are more appropriate to spend on assistance to the AFU or assistance to IDPs. I understand that the holiday must be, but let it be at each home, and we, as conscious residents of the capital, at the same time can do without setting the main Christmas tree this year. After all, now the main holiday that every Ukrainian expects is Victory Day.

The petition has collected the necessary number of votes and is now under consideration

A petition with a request to ban installation of a New Year tree in Kiev was also registered at the President's Web-site. So far it has collected about 630 votes out of 25 thousand required.

Earlier, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has already spoken about the New Year celebrations in Kyiv. He said that there will be no mass celebrations, but no one will cancel the New Year and Christmas holidays

As for the Christmas tree, he said that the mayor's office was still considering the matter, but they were inclined to have a tree anyway.
