Bakers told how much the number of their consumers had fallen and announced a possible increase in the price of bread
The fall in bread production in Ukraine from January to July 2022 was 15-20%.
Ukrainians have become less likely to buy bread. As the first vice-president of the All-Ukrainian Association of Bakers (VAP) and director of Kyiv Khleb LLC (TM Kyivkhlib) Yuriy Duchenko noted in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, this phenomenon has several reasons.
First, the productivity of the industry itself has fallen. According to his calculations, bread and bakery products began to be baked in Ukraine less, by about 15-20%. He stressed that, mainly, the production of such a sought-after product fell in the east and south of the country, which is explained by military operations.
For seven months, the decline in production amounted to about 15-20%, depending on the region. This figure is much higher in the east than in the west. In the West, there are even figures of 100% and 105% of the previous period. It is connected, first of all, with migration of the population, a stop and destruction of the enterprises, - he reported.
Speaking about consumers of bread, Duchenko noted that there are about 2-3 million fewer people buying bread. In doing so, he sees the reason. both in the migration of people abroad, and in the decrease in the purchasing power of Ukrainians.
The expert does not rule out that the probable increase in natural gas prices this autumn will force up to 10% of bread-baking enterprises to close, and the rest to raise prices for products.
It should be noted that the average cost of wheat bread in Ukraine as of September increased to 29.35 UAH per loaf of 650 g. Wheat bread TM Tsar sliced rose from 39.40 to 33.39 UAH per 600 g. 96 to 25.40 UAH for 500 g.
