- Red-listed animals die because of terrorist attack at Kakhovska hydropower station

Nine days have passed since the Kakhovka reservoir dam was blown up by Russian terrorists and more and more consequences of the terrorist attack are becoming apparent. The deaths of animals, which are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, were discovered today.
There were 149 dead Red Data Book newts stranded on the Black Sea shore. Another 55 animals were rescued.
This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources.
It is noted that the animals were found by workers of the Scientific and Production Enterprise "Tuzlovskie Limany". Last day they rescued 55 newts, but 149 animals died.
Tritons listed in the Red Book of Ukraine were washed out from the Dnieper to the Black Sea. The employees of our park have found them there," the statement says.
Because newts do not live in salt water, they were sent to the Danube Biosphere Reserve. The animals were released in different parts of the river (tributaries). It is said that they tolerated the trip well and should quickly adapt to their new surroundings in the Danube waters.
All nature conservationists are now concentrating their efforts on eliminating the consequences of the biggest ecological disaster caused by Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Work continues on documenting and calculating damage to the environment caused by Russia's terrorist attack on the Kakhovka hydropower plant," the ministry added.
Earlier we reported that after the dam was blown up on 6 June, the Kakhovka reservoir lost 70 per cent of its water. This water flooded 45 settlements in Kherson region. Special services continue to evacuate the population and deal with the consequences of the terrorist act.
