GUR told about the investigation into the poisoning of Budanov's wife

The Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Defence Ministry is itself investigating cases of poisoning of its employees and their family members. A spokesman for the GUR, Andriy Yusov, said this in a commentary for Ukrayinska Pravda on Wednesday, 29 November.

Yusov explained that since this is an alleged special operation against intelligence officers or their family members, at this stage the investigation into the poisoning of Marianna Budanova is handled by the GUR's own security division.

According to him, after studying all the circumstances, a decision will be made on involvement of other law enforcement agencies, transfer of materials to the relevant bodies of pre-trial or judicial investigation.

Earlier, Bellingcat investigators reported that they would conduct their own investigation into the poisoning of the wife of the head of the GUR.

According to the publication's sources, neither the SBI, nor the National Police, nor the SBU registered criminal proceedings on the poisoning of Marianna Budanova.
