- Grossi says what is happening at Chernobyl after Russian Federation strike

An RF drone punched a hole in the roof of the New Safe Confinement, a large arch-shaped shelter that covers the old sarcophagus of the destroyed Chernobyl Unit 4 and restrains the spread of radioactive substances to the outside.
Representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have inspected the Chernobyl nuclear power plant shelter damaged by a Russian drone. This is stated in the IAEA report.
The document says that despite "significant damage" as a result of a Russian drone strike on the confinement at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, radiation levels at the site have not changed.
The IAEA says the organisation's team based at the site was given unrestricted access to the site of the explosion and conducted a detailed examination to assess the damage to the facility, the arch of which was attacked by the Russian drone.
It is noted that IAEA exerters recorded smoke from the roof of the New Safe Confinement (NSC) and the odour of burning plastic. They noted that the ignition was fuelled by flammable material in the roof lining. Also on inspection, the IAEA team recorded that the drone attack had damaged both the outer and inner skin of the arch. There was a hole approximately 6 metres in diameter, and some equipment and electrical cables were also damaged. However, the support beams were not significantly damaged.
This was clearly a very serious incident where a drone hit and damaged a large containment structure at a major nuclear facility. As I have said repeatedly during this devastating war, attacking a nuclear facility is absolutely unacceptable, it should never happen," emphasised IAEA chief Rafael Grossi.
Repair of the shelter should begin when the fire is completely eliminated.
We will remind, on the night of 14 February, Russian kafirs attacked Ukraine with 133 Shahed-type strike drones and imitation drones. During the attack, a Russian attack drone with a high-explosive warhead hit the New protective shell covering the destroyed power unit No. 4 at ChNPP. President Vladimir Zelensky said that the Russians deliberately hit the sarcophagus at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, as evidenced by the low altitude of the drone's flight. Law enforcers opened a case under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - violation of laws and customs of war.
