Britain's defence chief urged allies not to retreat

Britain's new Defence Secretary Grant Shapps wants to expand the training programme for Ukrainian troops and possibly even resume it on Ukrainian territory.
UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps has said that Ukraine's allies should not back down in their support for Ukraine and should remain steadfast. He said this during a speech at the Conservative Party congress in Manchester, the BBC reported .
He pointed out that Putin has backed himself into a corner and does not know how to get out of it. At the same time, as Shapps noted, he did not manage to take Kiev in a rush, but now he does not know "how to finish the war he started."
Shapps noted the resilience of Ukrainians and emphasised that thanks to the courage of the people the seizure of Ukraine did not happen.
And neither will we allow it...We must not retreat," he said.
According to Shapps, war consumes weapons and people "at a terrible speed", but "we must remain steadfast".
It is known that the head of the British defence Ministry has taken the initiative to expand the training programme for Ukrainian troops. According to him, he recently held talks with the army leadership about moving the official UK-led Ukrainian military training programme directly to Ukraine so as not to rely on British or NATO member bases.
At the same time, the head of the UK government, Rishi Sunak, denied Shapps' statement, noting that there were no plans to send British troops to Ukraine in the near future.
We would like to add that more than 20,000 Ukrainian servicemen have already undergone basic general military training in the UK as part of Operation INTERFLEX.
