Georgia says they are not being treated in a "European way"

Georgia's Georgian Dream party accused the EU of unfair treatment of the country. In particular, they pointed out that other states that want to join the EU "are treated better". This was reported by the Tbilisi-based SOVA project.

In particular, Georgian politicians drew attention to the fact that Brussels decided to start negotiations on the EU accession of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Tbilisi stated that they "deserve it more". Thus, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili stated that according to all objective assessments, including the assessment of the European Commission itself, Georgia is a leader compared to the countries with which negotiations have been started.

"The EU has hit the ego of Georgia's ruling party Georgian Dream," the newspaper said.

"Georgian Dream reproached European politicians that they had already made decisions on Ukraine, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, but "unfairly bypassed Georgia."

Georgia, which is the leader compared to all three countries in absolutely all parameters, is oppressed. This injustice on the part of the European Union is very sad. It shows once again that, unfortunately, decisions are not based on merit. I hope the EU will finally make a fair decision regarding Georgia this year," Papuashvili said.

The Georgian Dream party said that if after the parliamentary elections in Georgia in October 2024, the EU offers to open negotiations with another country than Georgia, it will be considered "unfair".

Earlier, the European Commission urged Georgia to move forward and finalise the reforms that have been initiated.
