European Parliament: Hungary is no longer a democratic state

The lack of decisive action by the European Union has contributed to the emergence of a hybrid regime of electoral autocracy in Hungary.
Hungary has a constitutional system in which elections take place, but there is no respect for democratic norms and standards. This is the opinion of the European Parliament.
Parliament condemns the deliberate and systematic efforts of the Hungarian government" to undermine European values," the deputies noted.
433 deputies voted for this decision, 123 voted against, eight more abstained.
In the report, MEPs accuse Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who has been in power since 2010, of undermining the core values of the EU: “In Hungary, the electoral system, the independence of the judiciary, privacy, media pluralism, LGBT+ rights and the protection of national minorities are under threat.” ."
The country was also condemned for its cooperation with the Russian Federation against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine.
