- Part of Oleshek is still flooded, people die there every day - mayor

Residents of temporarily occupied Oleshek on the left bank of the Kherson region suffer from shelling on a daily basis. In addition, part of the town was flooded after the terrorist attack on the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant.
This was reported by the mayor, Yevhen Ryshchuk, to journalists of Radio Liberty.
The part of the city closer to the river, it is still flooded. The water level is not very high, but there is flooding. But today people are already suffering not from flooding, but from the fact that there are active hostilities. The city, village, located near the river, on the border line, they are shelled every day, every day there is destruction, every day there are dead and wounded," said the mayor.
According to him, the Oleshkivka community is now "very hot", so the locals are trying to leave. Even those who had not planned to leave the city are leaving.
Private sector - a lot of houses just fell, they were made of clay, the clay got wet, the water moved away, the houses fell. Those houses that did not fall, it was impossible to live in them, because if the water was up to the ceiling, then when the water receded, everything went away with it. Everything that was in the house was unusable. People were left naked and barefoot. These are elderly people who did not want to leave, and I see that quite a few of them also left," Ryshchuk said.
He added that several thousand people remained in the temporarily occupied Oleshko.
We will remind, on June 6, Russian invaders blew up the dam on the Kakhovka reservoir, mined since autumn. This led to the flooding of dozens of settlements, loss of life and serious damage to the environment. It was impossible to evacuate people in temporarily occupied Oleshki, and the Russians were not going to help people. There are known cases when the invaders demanded money from volunteers for the opportunity to evacuate people.
