British intelligence reveals how many Russian mobilisers were killed on New Year's Eve in Makeyevka

Over 300 Russian military personnel were killed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Makiivka on New Year's Eve, British intelligence has reported on Twitter.

Russia is highly likely to have suffered more than 300 casualties in a strike on troops stationed in Makiivka near Donetsk on 1 January 2023. We estimate that most of them were likely killed or missing rather than wounded," the British Defence Intelligence Service said in an intelligence review on Saturday.

Intelligence officials point out that after the strike, the Russian Ministry of Defence took the rare step of publicly admitting it had suffered casualties, but said only 89 had been killed.

It is likely that Russian officials felt it was inappropriate to shy away from commenting in the face of widespread criticism of the Russian command in this regard, says British Intelligence.

They believe that the difference between the number of casualties acknowledged by the Russian Federation and the likely true number of casualties in the strike highlights the pervasive lies in Russian public statements, the briefing notes.

It is known that the majority of those killed in the shelling of Makiivka received summonses in late September - shortly after the so-called "partial mobilization" was announced, and then for about two months they were trained in military units in Samara Region. They arrived in Makiivka in the Donetsk Region on 26 December.

The youngest occupant among the identified dead was 22 years old and the oldest was 48 years old.
