Almost a million people could die in Africa because of the war in Ukraine

Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, funding for humanitarian activities in the Sahel region in Africa has been reduced.
Bloomberg writes about it.
As of the end of June, only $1.3 billion of the $3.8 billion needed was allocated to humanitarian activities in the region. Volunteers have already received $1.8 billion by this time last year.
The reduction in funding is explained by the fact that donors are redirecting funds to help Ukrainian refugees. There are also risks from militants of terrorist groups (in particular, militants of the Boko Haram and Islamic State terrorist groups operate in the region), which operate in Africa.
The situation was especially aggravated by the cessation of supplies of Ukrainian grain and the shortage of fertilizers. This will negatively affect crop yields in the Sahel next year. At the moment, the crisis has reached its peak - food is running out, and the harvest is expected only in October.
The Istanbul deal on Ukrainian grain should alleviate the food crisis by lowering grain prices. The first ship with Ukrainian grain has already reached its final destination, and three more ships left Ukrainian ports on Friday.
