A shelter built back in the XIV century is operating in Lutsk. This was announced by Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries Timur Tkachenko.
In Lutsk there is a shelter that has been used for its intended purpose since the 14th century! This is the oldest civil defence structure in Ukraine from those where I have been and seen. It is a pity that our reality makes us use historical monuments as shelters, and not just study and research history, - wrote Tkachenko.
This historical defence structure-museum is located in the "Okolniy Castle" and fully complies with all modern norms.
To expand the area of the shelter and to carry out repair and restoration works (ventilation, replacement of engineering networks and lighting, strengthening the foundations of part of the defensive wall, etc.) allowed co-financing of the local government and the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme, - said Tkachenko.
During the air alert, people are actually in the underground museum. At other times, excursions are organised here for all comers.
