She dedicated the installation to the defenders of Azovstal.

The almost four square metre stand features a diorama of scenes from Mariupol, a symbol of the country's resistance. The largest structure is the Azovstal factory. Its industrial spires are covered in rust-coloured glaze, and tiny glazed figures of defenders hold machine guns.

The installation includes the bombed-out Mariupol theatre. Velida made the roof for it out of pieces of gingerbread. And also the Mariupol maternity hospital. More than 13 kg of flour were needed for the whole gingerbread structure.

According to Velida, the people who saw the installation got what she was striving for: an awareness of the ongoing struggle Ukraine faces and a celebration of the people's spirit even in the midst of loss and horror. "To me it's bravery," she said. "They are a people of steel with nerves of steel."
