Residents of flooded towns report that Russian invaders do not allow them to evacuate

There is no centralized evacuation in the occupied part of the Kherson region, which was significantly flooded after the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was blown up by the Russians.
Moreover, the Russian occupation authorities open fire on civilian boats in which people are trying to escape. This was reported by local blogs.
For example, late on the evening of 6 June, a huge number of requests for help appeared in the chat room of the occupied town of Oleshki.
People reported that they or their loved ones were on the roofs of houses and the water was still rising.

Earlier, the head of the occupation authorities in the region, Volodymyr Saldo, assured that nothing threatened the population.
As a result, people organised themselves and rescued people in their own boats. One of the videos shows people taking a boat to the de-occupied bank of the Dnieper.
At the same time, not only did the Russians not evacuate, but they did not even lift the curfew to allow people to leave flooded houses, the first deputy head of the Kherson regional council, Yuriy Sobolevskyy, has said.
Moreover, people reported in local chat rooms that the occupants forbade residents with Ukrainian passports to evacuate and even shot at the boats.

A video captured by a drone has also surfaced. It shows people on the roof gesturing for help.
There is no information about the death toll at this time. However, it is not possible to assess the real situation in the occupied territory right now.
A total of 40,000 people are to be evacuated, the deputy prosecutor-general of Ukraine has said . The consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovka power plant can be compared to a 5-10-kiloton tactical nuclear bomb, Ukrainian OSINT analysts have said .
It is well known that the explosion of the dam at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant took place on the night of 6 June. This territory is under Russian occupation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported about the threat of such a scenario back in October 2022.
