The man was not allowed on the evacuation bus.

A resident of Kherson, who suffered from the explosion of the Kakhovska hydro-electric power plant and had previously buried his family because of a Russian missile strike, walked to Odessa with only his sheepdog. Yana Titarenko, head of the NGO Law of Nature, spoke about him.

She explained that the man was forced to walk to Odessa because he was not allowed on the evacuation bus. They said they could not take his German shepherd dog because it did not have a muzzle. They suggested he leave the dog behind and leave on his own, but the man did not want to betray his friend, who was the only living thing that kept him connected to his past.

The volunteer said that the train station in Odessa, where her colleagues are on duty, received a request for food and a muzzle for a German Shepherd from Kherson. That's how she found out about the story.

I did not ask for anything, went to our Adoption Centre and handed over all the necessary things, added something from us for the dog, something that was not asked for. The next day, under completely different circumstances, I heard from a colleague the story of a guy with a sheepdog and I can't stop thinking about them," says Yana.

The man's family - his wife and five-year-old daughter - were killed by a Russian missile that landed in their house. After that, he continued to live in Kherson, taking care of his sheepdog. He was forced to leave home after the Russians blew up the Kakhovska hydroelectric plant and completely destroyed the place where he used to be happy.

After he and his dog were not allowed on the bus, the man decided to walk. He only had 300 hryvnias with him for dog food and water.

Volunteers have now helped the Kherson resident find a flat in Odessa, covering all his basic needs. Now the Kherson resident and his sheepdog are gradually recovering.

Titarenko noted that she was struck by this story of devotion and love.

Now the dog is all this man has left," she added.
