Zelensky points out main challenge in possible talks with Russia

Zelensky ready to negotiate - but not to capitulate
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the most difficult and sensitive topic of possible negotiations with Russia will be the issue of the occupied territories. He said this during a briefing after a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House.
Of course, the issue of territories is very sensitive, specific and, in fact, the most difficult," Zelensky emphasised.
According to Zelensky, Russia insists on an agreement on the transfer of the occupied Ukrainian territories even before the ceasefire. However, Kiev rejects this.
Our position is as follows: first there should be a cease-fire. Only then - a conversation at the negotiating table to understand where we are," the head of state said.
He also added that any negotiations without Ukraine's participation were impossible, and the territorial issue would be the most painful.
Zelensky also reacted to Trump's proposal to "stop the war where it is now."
He is right. We must stop where we are. It's important to fix the line and start talking," Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president reiterated that he was ready for meetings in any format - bilateral, trilateral or extended - if it would really bring the sides closer to peace. However, according to him, everything is stymied by Putin's unwillingness to engage in dialogue.
If one person does not want to talk, there are other people, there are groups that can meet and discuss real steps towards a just and long-term peace," Zelensky added.
