Zelensky described the meeting with Vance and Rubio as "fruitful"

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the talks in Istanbul on 15 May.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has described his meeting with US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Rome as "good" and "productive". He said this in Telegram, emphasising the importance of the issues discussed.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the results of the talks held in Istanbul on 15 May and reiterated Ukraine's readiness for "real diplomacy", and stressed the need for as quick and unconditional ceasefire as possible.
President Zelenskyy noted that sanctions against Russia, bilateral trade, military cooperation, the situation on the frontline and prisoner exchange issues were among the key topics of discussion.
Ukraine and the USA are actively working on steps aimed at establishing a just and sustainable peace," the President said.
Zelensky expressed gratitude to the American people for their support, and also noted the leadership of the United States in preserving human lives.
Recall that the meeting with Vance took place on Sunday, after the enthronement ceremony of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. This was Zelensky's second such contact with high-ranking US officials. Last month, the Ukrainian president also met with Donald Trump at the Vatican, at the funeral of Pope Francis, where the White House described the meeting as "very productive" and Zelensky said he hoped it could be historic.
