Zelensky says when Ukraine will be ready to talk about EU membership

Last year Ukraine was granted candidate status for EU accession.
The Ukrainian authorities are doing everything possible to ensure that our country is ready to start negotiations on membership in the European Union as early as this year. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He stressed that work in this direction was going on intensively, especially with those European countries with which cooperation "was insufficient".
European Union: we are trying as much as possible to make Ukraine this year ready to open negotiations on membership, - the president stressed.
We shall remind you that on 23 June 2022, the member states of the European Union voted for granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union. At the same time, the European Union provided a number of requirements to be fulfilled on the way to European integration. Namely:
- Fighting corruption;
- Reform of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine;
- Continuation of judicial reform in Ukraine;
- Anti-oligarchic law;
- Combating money laundering;
- Law on Media (bringing media legislation in line with European legislation);
- Changing the legislation on national minorities;
The implementation of the steps outlined by the European Union implies amendments to Ukrainian legislation and adjustment of mechanisms for the implementation of this legislation.
Ukraine has completed the implementation of 2 out of 7 recommendations of the European Commission to start accession negotiations with the EU. In particular, as stated by European Commissioner Oliver Varhey, Ukraine has successfully reformed two bodies of the judicial system: the High Council of Justice and the High Qualification Commission of Judges. Ukraine has also adopted legislation that fully complies with the European directive on audiovisual services. The implementation of other recommendations is in progress.
