A staff member at a Ukrainian diplomatic office in Madrid was injured when an envelope exploded.

This was reported by Correspondent, citing the Spanish media.

An embassy employee opened an envelope containing an explosive device.

One person was injured as a result of the explosion. The wounded person is in hospital.

The explosives are believed to have been homemade and to have been contained in an envelope which the injured member of staff had received.

The envelope containing the explosives was addressed to the ambassador but did not go through a scanner and was opened by a security guard in the embassy garden," Spanish media said.

Spanish police cordoned off the area where the embassy is located.
