Official Budapest says transfer of Ukrainian prisoners was the result of "discussions between church and religious organisations"

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated this on Monday, 19 June, during his address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the Telegram channels reported.

In his words:

Ukrainians are free in their movement in Hungary and can do what they want.

And if they want to contact the Ukrainian authorities, they are free to do so, and I can guarantee you that," the Hungarian minister said.

At the same time, Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Mykolenko says that all attempts of Ukrainian diplomats to establish direct contact with Ukrainian citizens have so far failed. The Ukrainian nationals are held in isolation, their communication with relatives takes place in the presence of third parties, and the Ukrainian embassy has had no contact with the prisoners of war so far.

The European Commission has demanded that Hungary explain its involvement in releasing Ukrainian POWs in the Russian Federation and establish communication with the Ukrainian government.

As Sozportal reported earlier, 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war are being held in Hungary.
