French military officer killed in Ukraine

Foreign nationals may take part in hostilities as volunteers.

The French Foreign Ministry has confirmed information about the death of a French volunteer who fought on the Ukrainian side in the ranks of the International Legion. The ministry said this in a commentary to the AFP news agency, European Pravda reported.

We learned the sad news of his death. We extend our condolences to the family with whom the relevant services of the ministry ... are in touch," the diplomats said.

The name of the French serviceman was not disclosed, but the Le Monde newspaper wrote that a volunteer named "T." died in Ukraine last week.

The French Foreign Ministry once again reminded that trips to Ukraine are now dangerous. They stressed that "the entire territory of Ukraine is a war zone".

The International Legion of Territorial Defence of Ukraine is a volunteer military unit set up by the Ukrainian government as part of the territorial defence of the AFU at the request of President Vladimir Zelensky in February 2022 to repel a Russian invasion.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said as of 6 March that volunteers from 52 countries were enrolling in the international legion, with a total strength of 20,000.
