The evacuation of civilians in the five-kilometre zone near the Russian border has been announced in Sumy Region.

This was reported by the press service of the Sumy regional administration.

A decision to this effect has been made following the Sumy Defence Council. The head of the Sumy OVA Volodymyr Artyukh believes that such a need emerged long ago.

According to the OVA, 35 civilians were killed by enemy fire in the Sumy region from January to July 2023. But in the last month 17 people have been killed, including 1 child.

People here do not live, but survive - under constant shelling, for weeks or even months without light. Shops, schools and hospitals often shut down. It is impossible to safely bring in the most essential foodstuffs, medicines and so on. Under constant shelling, it is almost impossible to rebuild destroyed facilities. The enemy acts insidiously and brazenly - it deliberately shells even repair crews - the workers of Sumyoblenergo who went out to repair damaged power lines were recently killed," the report says.

Therefore, the Sumy Regional Defence Council has decided to prepare and carry out evacuation from a five-kilometre zone on the border with the Russian Federation.

The evacuation will take place under the cover of the Armed Forces. The evacuation will start after local residents are explained their rights and provided with the necessary resources.
