The first state in the US to ban TikTok altogether appeared

Lawmakers want to protect state residents from likely data collection by China.

This was reported by Reuters.

According to the publication, Montana will become the first state in the US to completely ban the Chinese TikTok platform from ByteDance.

The law has already been signed by the state's governor, Greg Gianforte. Lawmakers thus want to protect residents from likely data collection by China.

The law prohibits Google and Apple from offering TikTok in their shops in the state. But it does not impose any sanctions on those who use the app.

The ban will take effect on 1 January 2024.
