The head of Buryatia, Alexei Tsydenov, claims the crash occurred at 15:20 local time. According to the Government of Buryatia, the helicopter was manufactured at the Ulan-Ude aircraft plant and was not yet in service.
The crash might have been caused by a fire in the helicopter's engine. The fire engulfed the helicopter completely.
