Russian army imposes caps on ammunition due to shortages

The Russian military-industrial complex cannot keep up with the army's ammunition needs.

The UK Ministry of Defence Intelligence Review states:

In recent weeks, shortages of Russian artillery ammunition are likely to have increased to the point where rationing measures are being applied in many parts of the front. This has almost certainly been a key reason why no Russian formations have been able to carry out operationally significant offensives recently.

Russia is likely already using old stocks of ammunition that have previously been deemed unusable.

A UK Ministry of Defence report published on Twitter said:

"Russia is increasingly applying the principles of command-and-control economics to its military-industrial complex as it recognises that its defence production capabilities are a key weakness in an increasingly depleted "special military operation".

At the same time, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), in another summary-analysis, reports a slight advance by the Russians in the northernmost part of the front:

Geolocated video indicates that Russian units have been able to advance south of Gryanikivka, towards Kupyansk, which is 17 kilometres from this section of the front.

Based on another geolocated video, experts claim that the Russians have advanced slightly, but in the direction of Seversk, to the east of it. The front stabilised in this area at the beginning of last summer, after the Ukrainians retreated from Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, the experts stressed.
