UN names number of civilians killed as a result of Russian aggression
The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (HRMMU) has recorded at least 10,000 cases of civilian deaths. More than 560 of them are children.
Also, more than 18,500 civilians were wounded. This is stated on the official UN website.
Ten thousand dead civilians is a grim milestone for Ukraine. The war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine has been going on for the 21st month and threatens to turn into a long conflict, which will entail loss of human lives, the scale of which is unimaginable," the head of the Monitoring Mission, Danielle Belle, said.
It is noted that the real number of civilian Ukrainians killed may be much higher. Since the verification of data is a long process.
According to the IHRMU, a significant number of deaths and injuries of civilians were recorded far from the front line. This is due to the use of long-range rockets and barrage munitions by the Russian army.
Over the past three months, almost half of the deaths and injuries of civilians have occurred far from the front line. We can state that there are no safe places in Ukraine now," Danielle Belle said.
We shall remind you that according to the data of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, 4,337 Ukrainians - 3,574 military and 763 civilians - were or are currently in Russian captivity.
