UN assesses scale of humanitarian needs in Ukraine

The UN believes that about 40 per cent of Ukraine's residents, i.e. more than 14.6 million citizens, need humanitarian aid.
This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to a statement by the director of operations at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Vosornu, during the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.
The scale of humanitarian needs in Ukraine remains enormous. More than 14.6 million people - about 40 per cent of Ukraine's population - are in need of some form of humanitarian assistance, 56 per cent of whom are women and girls," Vosornu said.
She expressed gratitude for the provision of $541 million, which has helped 3 million people to receive assistance during the two months of 2024. At the same time, the UN official said the amount covers only 17 per cent of the needs.
According to the UN plan for 2024, Ukraine needs $3.1bn to meet humanitarian needs.
Vosornu called on the international community to do everything possible to provide humanitarian support to Ukraine.
