The terrorist country has systematically shelled civilian infrastructure, including railway stations, railways, and trains.

During the war the Russians damaged, destroyed almost 10 thousand kilometres of railway tracks. This was reported by Ukrzaliznytsya.

In addition, the invaders destroyed fully or partially 43 buildings of railway stations, as well as other infrastructure facilities.

The UZ said that during the repair and track works for eight months of 2024, specialists managed to repair 737.6 kilometres of tracks, which is 62% of the planned volume for the year. Restoration of destroyed railway stations is also underway.

In the future, Ukrainian railway workers plan to repair more than 1,195 km of tracks and 1,073 sets of switches by the end of this year.

It should be noted that since 24 February 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukrzaliznytsia has evacuated 4.1 million people from dangerous regions. This includes 1 million children and 120,000 pets.

During the large-scale invasion, more than 10,200 railway workers were mobilised, of whom 1,000 veterans returned home, and this figure is constantly growing. Sadly, 590 railway workers died at the hands of the Russian invaders, 445 of whom were killed while serving in the AFU/TRO, 23 in the workplace, and 122 in other circumstances.
