Ukraine will claim a third of the foreign property of the USSR
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation announced that it would inherit all the external debts of the USSR. But at the same time she left all the property around the world.
Ukraine demands Russia to return a third of the foreign property of the former USSR, Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK Vadym Prystaiko says in an interview with Hromadske.
Prystaiko said that our country was the only one that did not ratify the agreement to assign debts and foreign property of the Soviet Union to the Russian Federation. The ambassador noted that Ukraine asked to provide information on debt and assets worldwide to ensure the deal was fair.
Since we definitely had more than a third of everything that the Soviet Union earned, we demanded accountability. We have not received this report. And everything, including foreign and diplomatic institutions, castles, houses, and other assets remained in Russia. And now we demand from Russia - you must return at least a third of what is abroad, Prystaiko said.
In particular, this also applies to property in the UK and, according to the Ukrainian side, was illegally registered to the Russian Federation.
According to the diplomat, now the Ukrainian side is collecting all the information about these foreign assets of the former USSR. For example, The Times wrote about 18 objects in London, which Ukraine plans to sue in court.
Now there are companies that help us deal with legal difficulties. In the end, if we conclude that this lawsuit has a judicial perspective, this lawsuit will be filed by the state of Ukraine, Prystaiko said.
