Ukraine officially confirms participation in the 2024 Olympics

Ukraine has officially announced its participation in the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held from 26 July to 11 August in Paris. This was announced by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on 20 May.

The head of the Ukrainian Youth and Sports Ministry, Matvei Bednyy, and the president of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Vadym Gutzeit, have announced that Ukraine will take part in the 2024 Olympics.

The officials met with the press in the off-the-record format. At the meeting they discussed details of Ukraine's participation in the 2024 Olympic Games.

These games are of special importance for Ukraine, because it is an opportunity to show the world our will and strength of spirit. The slogan of Ukraine at the Olympic Games is "The Will to Win"," the ministry said.

It is noted that this time for Ukraine the Olympics is first of all a big screen to the world.

We must remind that Ukraine is, fights and is able to win. The very fact that they perform under the Ukrainian flag in Paris is a great display of willpower," the ministry said.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, more than 450 Ukrainian athletes, including world champions, have died.

The occupiers have destroyed or damaged more than 500 sports facilities, including 15 Olympic training bases. Despite this, Ukrainian athletes continue to train and compete for Olympic licences.

Our athletes are heroes who train under occupation, under shelling, often losing loved ones. Their courage and will to win deserve the greatest respect and support," they said at the meeting.

The participants of the meeting expressed gratitude to international partners who provided shelter and training bases for Ukrainian athletes. They also emphasised the importance of continuing to fight against the admission of Russian and Belarusian citizens to the Olympic Games.

Ukraine bravely defends our common peaceful space every day. That is why we call on the world community to unite at the Inaugural Peace Summit, which will be held on 15-16 June in Switzerland, - the ministry stressed.

The participants of the meeting noted that by supporting this Summit - they express their commitment to the principles of Olympism, which the aggressor is also trying to destroy.

Earlier Socialportal reported that each Ukrainian athlete who returns from Paris with a won Olympic medal will receive from the state prize money.

The sums of prize money for Ukrainian athletes at the 2024 Summer Olympics were announced by the president of the National Olympic Committee, Vadym Gutzeit.
